Degree Apprenticeship 6th March 2023 7.30pm on Teams.

Our final careers evening is on Degree Apprenticeships. These offer an alternative to the traditional university route and the purpose of the evening is to dispel myths, emphasise the high quality of the degrees (and companies offering them) and to provide information and guidance for boys and parents.

We will be joined by four guests, two from high profile universities who offer a range of degree apprenticeships, and two of the biggest employers.

The Speakers:

Peter Offord, School and College Engagement Team, University of Exeter
Before starting his current role, Pete worked for several years in the degree apprenticeship team at Exeter setting up the Financial Services Professional Apprenticeship with J.P.Morgan. In December he completed his own degree apprenticeship, Level 6 Chartered Manager with a BSc (Hons) degree in Responsible Business Management. So, has seen apprenticeships from all sides!

Helyn Thornbury Gould, Deputy Associate Principal for Learning Teaching, University of Strathclyde
Helyn is Deputy Associate Principal for Learning and Teaching at the University of Strathclyde. Helyn provides the University with institutional-level leadership in the shaping and delivery of strategic priorities in Education, Learning and Teaching. She has a specific remit for learning enhancement; continued strategic academic development; and digital and online education, particularly in the area of apprenticeships degrees.

Samantha Dicken, Apprenticeship Program Manager, Amazon
After graduating in 2013 with a degree in music, Samantha has split her working life between the US and UK. She spent nearly three years with the Sytner Group as a sales executive with particular interest in emerging technologies. Then in 2016 moved to QA Ltd as Apprenticeships Solutions Director supporting stakeholders in promoting apprenticeships, and working on re-training and upskilling staff in technology. A year at Core Strengths based in the US as Senior Client Partner was followed by her appointment as Apprenticeship Program Manager at Amazon.

Katherine Bond, Senior Manager Talent Engagement, PwC
Having graduated from Bath with a 1st class degree in International Management with German in 2012. Katherine began her career working in corporate responsibility and sustainability at Kaefer in Germany then ARM Holdings in Cambridge. She joined PwC six years ago as a student recruitment officer progressing on to Degree Apprenticeship / Degree Partnership Manager in 2016. She is now Senior Manager for Talent Engagement at PwC and is keen to promote the Degree Apprenticeships as an alternative route with all its benefits to high achieving students across the country.
