Toby Merchant (MH 1984-89) Executive Partner, IBM
After gaining a degree in Information Systems Design from Kingston University, Toby went on to become a founder of 3 Screen Design and Head of Digital Experience at Capgemini before joining IBM as an Executive Partner in 2020.
Having created the world's first multimedia car configurator, the UK’s first PC banking service and the world’s first 3G portal, Toby is now leading companies through Generative AI led, customer focussed digital transformation. Showing business, marketing, design and IT departments how to work together when modernising their legacy estate, using Agile and leveraging the latest technologies.
Alan Currie Mechanical Engineer, Jee Ltd Subsea Engineering
Alan has a Masters in Engineering (MEng) from Herriot Watt University and a Post Graduate Certificate from Brunel University in Intellectual Property Law. Working for Jee, a local company owned by a past parent, Alan provides market leading engineering services to the offshore wind market, and international and national oil and gas operators with a range of subsea systems. Jee also provide technical subsea training to the industry. He’ll tell us about the conflict of being interested in two careers and how engineering ultimately won out.
Dominic Daly (current parent) Operations Leader (construction), Laing O’Rourke
After gaining his BEng in Civil Engineering Dominic worked at Laing O’Rourke as a Construction Manager, and now holds the post of Operations Leader (construction). As well as hearing about his own career path, Dominic will give us an insight into some of the major projects he has worked on and give advice on what a company like Laing O’Rourke are looking for in new graduates.
Marc Barone (past parent) Chief Operating Officer, Buro Happold
A member of Buro Happold’s executive and global leadership teams, Marc manages business operations, working closely with department heads and providing direction to the day-to-day activity of employees.
Having held several senior executive roles within the built environment industry across the UK, Europe and the Middle East, Marc has proven experience in driving organisational growth. He excels at addressing the client’s most challenging needs and implementing new service offers in areas such as ESG, energy and digital.
Marc holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, an MSc in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA in Business Administration and Management from London Business School.
